Press release No. 287 of 7 July 2022
WIESBADEN – Based on provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), overall labour productivity, measured as the price adjusted gross domestic product per hour worked by persons in employment, rose by 0.7% in the first quarter of 2022 year on year. In the years of 2020 and 2021, which were strongly affected by the economic consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic, labour productivity per hour was also higher than in the relevant preceding year, with growth rates of +0.4% (2020) and +1.1% (2021). An increase of 1.5% on the pre-crisis year of 2019 has been calculated. There were however considerable differences in labour productivity between the individual economic sectors because the development of the underlying price adjusted gross value added (output) and the hours worked by persons in employment (input) differed between branches.
