- Number of building permits for dwellings issued from January to May 2022 down 1.6% compared with the same period a year earlier
Building permits for new construction issued from January to May 2022: -17.8% for single-family houses, +9.1% for multi-family houses
WIESBADEN – In May 2022, the construction of 31,688 dwellings was permitted in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a decrease of 2.1%, or 696 building permits, compared with May 2021. From January to May 2022, a total of 155,347 building permits for dwellings were issued, which is a decline of 1.6% compared with the same period a year earlier (January to May 2021: 157,937 building permits). The results include building permits for both dwellings in new buildings and new dwellings in existing buildings.
