WIESBADEN – For two years, there has been a new vocational training occupation in Germany. Apprentices can train to become generalist nurses entitled to work in geriatric, paediatric and nursing care.The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that approximately 56,300 apprentices started training for this occupation in 2021 (as at 31 December 2021). This was an increase of 5% compared with 2020, when 53,600 apprentices decided to take up the occupation. As at 31 December 2021, a total of roughly 102,900 people were training to become generalist nurses.
