- Natural gas was the major energy source for industry in 2020, accounting for 31.2%
- Households used mostly natural gas to meet their demand for housing energy (41.2%) in 2019
- 13% of the electricity produced in Germany and fed into the grid in the 1st quarter of 2022 came from natural gas
- In 2021, 95% of natural gas in Germany had been imported
WIESBADEN – Since war broke out in Ukraine, attention has focused on the gas supply in Germany. This is the more so as hardly any natural gas from the Russian Federation has been delivered to Germany via the Nord Stream 1 pipeline since 11 July. Maintenance work on the pipeline is expected be completed today. In this context, the Federal Statistical Office is giving an overview of the facts and figures on gas supply and consumption in Germany.
