WIESBADEN – Turnover in accommodation and food service activities in the first half of 2022 was up a real (price adjusted) 98.5% and thus was almost twice as high as in the first half of 2021. Based on provisional figures, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a nominal (not price adjusted) increase in turnover of 109.2%. In the first half of 2021, the Covid-19 restrictions were not eased until late May 2021, whereas in the first half of 2022 first easing took effect already in February. However, real turnover in the first half of 2022 was still 22.1% below the level recorded in the first half of 2019, the pre-crisis year.
