Press release No. 402 of 21 September 2022
WIESBADEN – German fruit growers had a good cherry harvest this summer. Based on final estimates as at reference date 20 August 2022, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that a total of 48,700 tonnes of cherries were harvested in 2022. This was an increase of 26.8% compared with the previous year's low level (38,400 tonnes) and of 6.3% compared with the average of the years 2012 to 2021 (45,800 tonnes). The even higher yields expected on the basis of the provisional harvest estimate as at reference date 10 June 2022 were not achieved because of weather conditions and pest infestation.
