WIESBADEN – 348.1 million tonnes of goods to the value of 853.1 billion euros were imported to Germany from January to July 2022. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that 84.0% of the imports (292.5 million tonnes) were delivered to Germany directly from the country in which the goods were extracted or produced. This includes imports of goods delivered directly from the country of origin to Germany and of goods which, on their way from their country of origin to Germany, transit other countries and are possibly transshipped there (transit trade). 16% of the imports came indirectly via other countries (55.5 million tonnes). The term “indirectly” means that the goods are traded or customs cleared in another country between their country of origin and Germany.
