- Number of building permits for dwellings issued from January to August 2022 down 3.0% compared with the same period a year earlier
- Building permits for new construction issued from January to August 2022: -15.8% for single-family houses, -2.8% for multi-family houses
WIESBADEN – In August 2022, the construction of 28,180 dwellings was permitted in Germany. This was a decrease of 9.4%, or 2,934 building permits, from August 2021 according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). From January to August 2022, a total of 244,605 building permits for dwellings were issued, which was a decline of 3.0%, or 7,624, compared with the same period a year earlier (January to August 2021: 252,229 building permits). The results include building permits for both dwellings in new buildings and new dwellings in existing buildings.
