- 5.3% less start-ups of larger businesses compared with the pre-crisis level (1st to 3rd quarter of 2019)
- Number of small business start-ups 5.2% above the previous year's level, but 16.9% below the pre-crisis level
- Complete business shutdowns increased by 7.3% from the same quarter a year earlier and decreased by 12.8% compared with the pre-crisis level
WIESBADEN – Just over 89,200 businesses were started in Germany in the first three quarters of 2022, whose legal form and number of employees suggest that they have greater economic importance. Based on an evaluation of business notifications, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that this was a decrease of 7.3% compared with the same period a year earlier, which was heavily impacted by the Covid-19 crisis. The number of larger businesses started was down 5.3% compared with the pre-crisis level (first to third quarter of 2019).
