WIESBADEN – A growing number of businesses in Germany have difficulties filling IT vacancies while the frequency of IT security incidents is increasing. More than a fifth (22%) of businesses with 10 or more employees had their own IT specialists in 2022, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). More than one in ten (11%) businesses of that size advertised jobs for IT experts in 2021, and more than three fourths (77%) of those businesses stated that they had had problems filling the vacancies. That share increased by nearly 20 percentage points over the past few years. Such problems were mentioned by 66% of businesses in 2019 and by only 58% in 2016.
