WIESBADEN – The euro was the currency used most often for German exports to countries outside the European Union (third countries) from January to September 2022. 55.6% of German exports to third countries were settled in euros, according to the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). 25.6% of the export transactions were in US dollars. Then followed transactions in Chinese yuan renminbi (5.0%) and British pounds (4.0%). Only 9.9% of exports were paid for in other currencies. A mere 0.6% of the transactions were invoiced in Russian roubles. In 2021, the proportion of exports paid for in roubles had accounted for as much as 1.2%.
