Press release No. 528 of 12 December 2022
WIESBADEN – By amending the Climate Change Act, the Federal Government has set itself the goal of reducing CO2 emissions in traffic by 61 million tonnes by 2030. To achieve the goal, German cities and towns have to review their strategies of traffic and mobility planning and readjust them where necessary. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), together with the city of Hamburg, has developed the Mobility Compass. Municipal authorities may use the tool to assess the effects of their mobility planning and to optimise traffic systems. The Mobility Compass combines various data (regarding travel times, demography, movement patterns and income, for instance) in a traffic simulation model.
