WIESBADEN – Many enterprises have drastically reduced or altogether stopped their trade with Russia as a consequence of the Russian attack on Ukraine. The sanctions imposed on the country are another reason why business relationships with Russia were terminated. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that as many as 19,285 enterprises exported goods to the value of 27 billion euros from Germany to Russia in 2021, or 6% of the 330,192 enterprises that exported goods to foreign countries in 2021. The largest share of export transactions with Russia was recorded for enterprises of the manufacturing sector. They accounted for somewhat less than half (44% or 8,559) of the enterprises exporting to Russia and exported nearly three fourths (74%) of the goods. As part of that sector, the manufacture of machinery and equipment and the automotive industry accounted for a particularly large proportion of exports to Russia (18% each).
