WIESBADEN – The expenditure of the overall public budget rose by 1.5% to 1,326.9 billion euros in the first three quarters of 2022 compared with the same period a year earlier, and revenue increased by 9.1% to 1,261.2 billion euros. These are provisional results of the core and extra budgets of the quarterly cash statistics. They include special funds. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that this was a cash deficit, as defined in public finance statistics, of 65.7 billion euros in the period from January up to and including September 2022. In the first three quarters of 2021, the financial deficit in the overall public budget amounted to 150.2 billion euros, while a financial surplus of 18.8 billion euros had been recorded in the same period of 2019, the year before the pandemic.
