WIESBADEN - With the fading Covid pandemic and the abolishment of nearly all Covid restrictions, accommodation and food service activities in Germany generated markedly higher turnover in 2022 than in the previous year. The turnover generated by food service and accommodation establishments in 2022 was by just over 47% (in real terms, price adjusted) and by just over 57% (in nominal terms, not price adjusted) higher than in 2021, according to an estimate of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis). The difference between the results in real and nominal terms reflects the high price increases for food and energy. However, real turnover of accommodation and food services in 2022 was by just over 11% lower than in the pre-Covid year of 2019, whereas nominal turnover was by just under 1% higher.
Long time series regarding the monthly statistics of accommodation and food service activities are provided in the table on Turnover in accommodation and food services (45213) in the GENESIS-Online database.
