- Microcensus provides important data about life in Germany
- Households are selected using a random statistical method and participate in the survey up to four times
- Results are available three months after the end of the survey
WIESBADEN – The microcensus 2023 has started. Using a statistical random method, a total of roughly 810,000 people in about 380,000 households and collective living quarters are selected and surveyed from January to December 2023. This is approximately 1% of the population. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) is asking the households, which have been selected at random, for their support. As a representative part of the population, they will provide information about their school education and studies, training and advanced training, occupation and search for work, income and living conditions and their internet use.
A short video (only in german) on the website of the Federal Statistical Office explains what the microcensus is, why it is caried out, how the households are randomly selected, why they have to participate and what is done with their answers. The video is available also in Arabic, English, Polish, Russian and Turkish. For more information on the microcensus and answers to frequently asked questions please refer to www.mikrozensus.de
