Press release No. 053 of 9 February 2023
WIESBADEN – A good 43,000 tonnes of bush berries were harvested in Germany in 2022; the area under cultivation was 9,340 hectares. The area shrank by 1.0% compared with the previous year, while the quantity harvested dropped by 5.5%. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that hot and dry periods in the summer of 2022 were responsible, among others, for the smaller yields, especially from organically farmed land.
In 2021, particularly large quantities of bush berries had however been harvested due to more favourable weather conditions. Altogether, the total bush berry yields of 2022 still exceed the long-term average.
