Wholesale selling prices, January 2023
+10.6% on the same month a year earlier

WIESBADEN – The selling prices in wholesale trade were 10.6% higher in January 2023 than in January 2022. The annual rates of change in December 2022 and in November 2022 had been +12.8% and +14.9%, respectively. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that, compared with the previous month, wholesale prices slightly increased by 0.2% in January 2023.
The high annual rate of change for wholesale prices mainly derives from increased prices for food, beverages and tobacco (+16.2%), especially for milk, dairy products, eggs, edible oils and fats (+30.3%), meat and meat products (+21.0%), sugar, confectionery and bakery products (+20.1%) as well as for fruit, vegetables and potatoes (+15.6%). Also solid fuels and mineral oil products (+13.1%) had a large impact on the annual rate of change in January 2023. Compared to December 2022 prices for those energy products decreased by 4.4%.
