WIESBADEN – Turnover in building completion work declined by 4.8% on a real basis (price adjusted) in 2022 compared with 2021. Allbranches of building completion work were affected by this decline in turnover in 2022. Due to the substantial increase in construction prices, nominal turnover was up by 10.8%. Based on provisional results, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of persons employed in 2022 increased by 0.8% on a year earlier.

Turnover in real terms down by 8.1% in the 4th quarter of 2022 year on year

In the fourth quarter of 2022, real turnover in building completion work was 8.1% lower than in the fourth quarter of 2021 (+8.3% on a nominal basis). Thereforce the decline in sales has continued at an accelerated pace in the year to date. In the first quarter of 2022, sales were up 1.0% on the same quarter of the previous year, while in the second and third quarters they fell by 2.4% and 3.4% respectively.

The number of persons employed in building completion work rose by 0.6% in the fourth quarter of 2022.
