Persons employed in manufacturing, February 2023

WIESBADEN – At the end of February 2023, 5.5 million people worked in local units of manufacturing with 50 or more persons employed in Germany. As reported by the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) on the basis of provisional results, that was about 71,200 persons or 1.3% more than in February 2022.
In January 2021, the lowest level of employment had been reached during the corona crisis. This compares with an increase of just over 105,000 or 1.9% in February 2023. However, the number of employees is still nearly 157,000, or 2.7%, below the previous peak, which was reached in September 2019.
The number of hours worked in February 2023 increased 1.1% from a year earlier, reaching 689 million – at equal numbers of working days.
The earnings amounted to 25.6 billion euros in February 2023. In the past 12 months (March 2022 to February 2023), the earnings increased by 5.1% compared to the same period last year.
