Persons in employment resident in Germany, March 2023

WIESBADEN – Roughly 45.6 million persons resident in Germany were in employment in March 2023.According to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment increased by 57,000 (+0.1%) on February 2023 and thus to a similar extent as in previous months. In February 2023, the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment had been up by 58,000 month on month, and by 52,000 in both January 2023 and December 2022.

 

Unemployment rate at 2.9% in March 2023

1.26 million were unemployed in March 2023 according to results of the labour force survey. That was a decrease of 31,000 people, or 2.4%, compared with March 2022. The unemployment rate stood at 2.9% (March 2022: 3.0%).

Adjusted for seasonal and irregular effects, the number of unemployed was 1.26 million, too, which was a decline of 17,800 people, or 1.4%, on February 2023. The adjusted unemployment rate stood at 2.8% in March 2023 (February 2023: 2.9%).
