WIESBADEN – In February 2023, the real (price adjusted) turnover of the service sector in Germany (excluding financial and insurance activities) was up 0.9% on January 2023 according to provisional results of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) after calendar and seasonal adjustment. In nominal (not price adjusted) terms, turnover was 0.7% higher than in January 2023. Compared with February 2022, turnover increased by 6.5% in real terms and 6.7% in nominal terms. Turnover was therefore up a real 8.1% and a nominal 19.2% compared with the level of February 2020, the corresponding month before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic in Germany. The difference between the results in real and nominal terms reflects the significantly higher price level in the service sector.
