Persons in employment resident in Germany, April 2023

WIESBADEN – Roughly 45.7 million persons resident in Germany were in employment in April 2023. According to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment rose by 15,000 (0.0%) on March 2023. The increase was therefore lower than in the previous months. In February and March 2023, the month-on-month increase in the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment stood at 56,000 and 57,000, respectively.
Adjusted unemployment rate at 2.9% in April 2023
According to results of the labour force survey, 1.41 million people were unemployed in April 2023. This represented an increase of 19,000, or 1.4%, compared with April 2022. The unemployment rate was unchanged at 3.2% (April 2022: 3.2%).
Adjusted for seasonal and irregular effects, the number of unemployed stood at 1.30 million, which was a decline of 6,000 people, or 0.4%, on March 2023. The adjusted unemployment rate in April 2023 remained unchanged on the previous month at 2.9%.
