Wholesale selling prices, June 2024

WIESBADEN – In June 2024, the selling prices in wholesale trade were 0.6% lower than in June 2023. The year-on-year rate of change was -0.7% in May 2024, and -1.8% in April 2024. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that wholesale prices in June 2024 dropped by 0.3% on May 2024.
Lower prices for chemical products
Lower prices in the wholesale of chemical products (-10.9%) were the main reason for the year-on-year decrease in wholesale prices (total) in June 2024. Compared with May 2024, wholesale prices of chemical products dropped by 0.5%. Lower year-on-year prices were also reported in the wholesale of iron, steel and ferrous semi-finished metal products (-9.7%), live animals (-5.5%) and computers and peripheral equipment (-5.4%).
By contrast, the wholesale prices of coffee, tea, cocoa and spices were higher (+13.9%) than in June 2023, as were the wholesale prices of non-ferrous ores, non-ferrous metals and non-ferrous semi-finished metal products (+12.7%). In June 2024, the prices of waste and scrap (+9.7%), sugar, confectionery and bakery products (+5.8%), fruit, vegetables and potatoes (+5.6%) and tobacco products (+5.1%) were also higher at wholesale level than a year earlier.
