WIESBADEN – Brazil is the biggest country in Latin America and its national economy is growing rapidly. Since July 2014, when the German national football team won the World Cup in Brazil, German exports of goods to the country have risen significantly. By contrast, exports to Brazil as a proportion of total German exports have hardly changed. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that exports to Brazil in the first seven months of 2024 increased by 24.5% compared with the same period in the World Cup year of 2014. While goods to the value of 6.4 billion euros were exported to Brazil in the months from January to July 2014, the figure for the corresponding period from January to July 2024 rose to 8.0 billion euros. By contrast, imports of goods from Brazil in the first seven months of 2024 hardly differed from those reported ten years ago. From January to July 2014, goods to the value of 5.3 billion euros were imported to Germany from Brazil, while the corresponding value of imports in the same period of 2024 stood at 5.2 billion euros (-0.4%).
