WIESBADEN – Talks to bring the Western Balkan countries closer to the European Union have been underway since 2014. The Western Balkan countries comprise the countries of Serbia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Kosovo. To coincide with the 10th anniversary of the launch of the Western Balkans Summit, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that Germany exported goods to the value of 5.8 billion euros to these countries in the period from January to August 2024. Exports to the Western Balkans therefore increased by 0.4 billion euros, or 8.2%, compared with the same period a year earlier. Compared with the first eight months of 2014, the year the first Western Balkans Summit was held, exports from Germany to these countries rose by 3.5 billion euros, or 148.5%.
