Wholesale selling prices, May 2025
+0.4% on the same month a year earlier
-0.3% on the previous month
WIESBADEN – The selling prices in wholesale trade were 0.4% higher in May 2025 than in May 2024. The year-on-year rate of change was +0.8% in April 2025, and +1.3% in March 2025. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that wholesale prices in May 2025 fell by 0.3% on April 2025.
Higher prices for food, beverages and tobacco, non-ferrous ores, non-ferrous metals and non-ferrous semi-finished metal products
The main reason for the year-on-year increase in wholesale prices (total) in May 2025 were higher prices of food, beverages and tobacco, with prices up 4.3% from May 2024, on average. The wholesale prices particularly of coffee, tea, cocoa and spices were much higher than a year earlier (+38.4%), as were the prices of sugar, confectionery and bakery products (+17.1%). Milk, milk products, eggs, edible fats and oils (+8.9%) were also considerably more expensive than in the same month a year earlier.
The wholesale selling prices of non-ferrous ores, non-ferrous metals and non-ferrous semi-finished metal products also increased substantially compared with the same month of the previous year (+19.5%).
By contrast, the wholesale prices particularly of solid fuel and mineral oil products were lower (-8.5%) than in May 2024.
Year on year, lower prices were also reported in the wholesale of computers and peripheral equipment (-6.0%) and iron, steel and ferrous semi-finished metal products (-4.8%).
