WIESBADEN – Since 12 March 2025 the USA has imposed additional tariffs of 25% on imports of iron, steel, aluminium and goods made thereof. On 4 June 2025, the additional tariffs were raised to 50%. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that Germany exported iron, steel and goods made thereof to the value of 1.3 billion euros to the United States in the period from January to April 2025. Compared with the same period a year earlier, exports of these commodities to the USA were down 0.4%. The decrease in iron and steel exports to the USA in the first four months of 2025 was therefore less pronounced than the decline in Germany's total iron and steel exports, which fell by 4.2% to 20.7 billion euros year on year.
