Press release 260 / 2012-07-27: Consumer prices in July 2012: expected rise of 1.7% on July 2011
WIESBADEN – The consumer price index for Germany is expected to rise by 1.7% in July 2012 compared with July 2011. Based on the results available so far, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the consumer price index is expected to increase by 0.4% on June 2012.
The month-on-month increase in consumer prices is largely due to seasonal factors. Compared with June 2012, above all package holidays and holiday homes became more expensive. Also, motor fuel prices were up again in July, after they had declined slightly in May and June. For the first time since March 2012, heating oil prices were up considerably, too, in July. Declining prices were observed for fruit and vegetables and for clothing and footwear.
The harmonised consumer price index for Germany, which is calculated for European purposes, is expected to increase by 2.0% in July 2012 on July 2011. It is expected to rise by 0.4% on June 2012.
The final results for July 2012 will be released on 10 August 2012.
