Press release 117 / 2014-03-28: Consumer prices in March 2014: expected rise of 1.0% on March 2013

WIESBADEN – Consumer prices in Germany are expected to rise by 1.0% in March 2014 compared with March 2013. Based on the results available so far, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the consumer prices are expected to increase by 0.3% on February 2014. 

The relatively low inflation rate – measured by the consumer price index – is due to different trends. The expected increase in food prices (+2.2% on March 2013) is still contrasted by declining energy prices (–1.6%).

The harmonised consumer price index for Germany, which is calculated for European purposes, is expected to increase by 0.9% in March 2014 on March 2013. Compared with February 2014, it is expected to be up 0.3%. 

The final results for March 2014 will be released on 11 April 2014.
