Press release 327 / 2015-09-08: German exports in July 2015: +6.2% on July 2014

WIESBADEN – Germany exported goods to the value of 107.1 billion euros and imported goods to the value of 82.1 billion euros in July 2015. Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that German exports increased by 6.2% and imports by 6.1% in July 2015 year on year. After calendar and seasonal adjustment, exports rose by 2.4% to 103.4 billion euros and imports by 2.2% to 80.6 billion euros compared with June 2015. These are the highest seasonally adjusted monthly figures ever calculated both for exports and for imports. 

The foreign trade balance showed a record surplus of 25.0 billion euros in July 2015. In July 2014, the surplus amounted to 23.5 billion euros. In calendar and seasonally adjusted terms, the foreign trade balance recorded a surplus of 22.8 billion euros in July 2015. 

According to provisional results of the Deutsche Bundesbank, the current account of the balance of payments showed a surplus of 23.4 billion euros in July 2015, which takes into account the balances of trade in goods including supplementary trade items (+25.7 billion euros), services (–6.3 billion euros), primary income (+6.4 billion euros) and secondary income (–2.4 billion euros). In July 2014, the German current account showed a surplus of 20.6 billion euros. 

In July 2015, Germany dispatched goods to the value of 60.4 billion euros to the Member States of the European Union (EU), while it received goods to the value of 53.7 billion euros from those countries. Compared with July 2014, exports to the EU countries increased by 6.0%, and imports from those countries by 6.6%. Goods to the value of 37.7 billion euros (+5.5%) were dispatched to the Euro area countries in July 2015, while the value of the goods received from those countries was 36.8 billion euros (+6.2%). In July 2015, goods to the value of 22.7 billion euros (+6.9%) were dispatched to EU countries not belonging to the Euro area, while the value of the goods which arrived from those countries was 16.9 billion euros (+7.3%). 

Exports of goods to countries outside the European Union (third countries) amounted to 46.7 billion euros in July 2015, while imports from those countries totalled 28.4 billion euros. Compared with July 2014, exports to third countries increased by 6.4% and imports from those countries by 5.3%.
