Press Energy consumption in industry down 0.7% in 2015

WIESBADEN – In 2015, the energy consumption in industry was 4,016 petajoules, a decrease of 0.7% compared with a year earlier. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that energetic consumption as such (e.g. for electricity and heat production) declined slightly by 0.3%, while the use for non-energetic purposes (e.g. as source material for chemical products) was down 2.7%. As in the previous years, the main energy sources in industry were natural gas (27%), electricity (21%) as well as mineral oils and mineral oil products (20%).
