Press Manufacturing in October 2017: New orders +0.5% seasonally adjusted on the previous month

WIESBADEN – Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that price-adjusted new orders in manufacturing had increased in October 2017 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 0.5% on the previous month. For the third time in a row, German companies have thus received more orders as they did before the economic and financial crisis end of 2007. For September 2017, revision of the preliminary outcome resulted in increase of 1.2% compared with August 2017 (primary +1.0%). Price-adjusted new orders without major orders in manufacturing had decreased in October 2017 a seasonally and working-day adjusted –1.0% on the previous month. 

In October 2017, domestic orders increased by 0.4% and foreign orders increased by 0.5% on the previous month. New orders from the euro area were down 1.2%, new orders from other countries increased 1.6% compared to September 2017. 

In October 2017 the manufacturers of intermediate goods saw new orders fall by 0.4% compared with September 2017. The manufacturers of capital goods showed increases of 0.9% on the previous month. For consumer goods, an increase in new orders of 0.6% was recorded. 

Turnover –2.1% seasonally adjusted on the previous month

The price-adjusted turnover in manufacturing in October 2017 was down a seasonally and working-day adjusted 2.1% on the previous month. In September 2017, it decreased by 1.2% on August 2017 (primary –1.8%).

New orders and turnover are covered and evaluated in accordance with the Classification of Economic Activities, 2008 edition (WZ 2008). New orders are covered only in selected economic branches of manufacturing.
