Employment continues to grow in 2014
According to first provisional results, roughly 42.7 million people were in employment in Germany in 2014. That was a year-on-year increase of 371,000 or 0.9%. Hence the increase in employment observed since 2006 continued.
The number of unemployed, as defined internationally, in 2014 fell by 94,000 (–4.3%) to 2.1 million. This was the lowest level recorded since German reunification. In the European Union, Germany is least affected by unemployment. Most recent results for December 2014 show a seasonally adjusted unemployment rate of 4.8% for Germany, followed by 4.9% for Austria.
