Due mainly to mobility restrictions introduced to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, the International Transport Forum (ITF) recorded fewer road deaths in the first months of 2020 in 26 of 29 countries analysed. However, closer analysis shows the number of road deaths did not fall proportionally to the overall decrease in traffic. Some countries recorded an increase in average speed and in the severity of road traffic accidents.
