Approximately 150,000 agricultural holdings spread liquid farm manure on their land in 2015, this means slurry, liquid manure or liquid fermentation residue from biogas installations. This refers to 55 % of all holdings in Germany.
In all, 204 million cubic metres of liquid farm manure were applied to agricultural area. About two thirds of the liquid farm manure were spread on arable land and about one third on permanent grassland.
Cattle slurry was applied most often and accounted for about 52 % of liquid farm manure spread, but fermentation residue from biogas installations (31 %) and pig slurry (15 %) were used quite frequently, too. Liquid manure and other slurry accounted for the remaining 2 %.
