Wine Wine must harvest 2023: 3.7 % less than in 2022

8.7 million hectoliters of wine must German winemakers harvested in 2023. The entire wine must harvest fell by 0.4 million hectoliters (- 3.7 %) in contrast to the previous year. Compared to the six-year average 2017 to 2022 (8.7 million hectoliters) the harvest was 0.03 million hectoliters lower, or 0.3 %.

6.0 million hectoliters (69 %) of the wine must harvest 2023 were white must and 2.7 million hectoliters (31 %) red must. The proportion of white must in the total harvest volume is distributed over the Riesling with 22 %, Müller-Thurgau 13 %, Grauer Burgunder 8 %, Weißer Burgunder 6 % and Grüner Silvaner 4 %. For the red varieties, the proportion of Blauer Spätburgunder was 11 %, Dornfelder 8 % and Blauer Portugieser 2 % of the total harvest.
