Approximately 571 billion kilowatt hours of electricity were produced in Germany in 2022, 44% of which came from renewable energy sources. Green electricity was generated mainly from wind power (22.0%), biomass (8.0%) and photovoltaics (11.0%)
Under the transformation of the energy system, renewable energies are supposed to become the most important energy source in the long run. There are plans to increase their share in the gross electricity production in Germany to at least 80% by 2050.
