In 2024, a Europe-wide harmonized major revision of the National Accounts will take place in Germany. The revised results will be published for the first time in summer 2024.
Major revisions of national accounts are performed approximately every five years (last in 2019).
The main purpose of the 2024 revision is to refine the results by including new data sources, the new classification of private consumption expenditure and new calculation methods. In addition, the entire national accounting system is reviewed and revised and, if necessary, new findings are integrated into the calculations. In order to avoid breaks in time series, the results for Germany are recalculated from 1991 onwards.
