Bureaucracy costs Barometer of burdens

Statistical reports - major contribution for official statistics

The burden barometer reflects the annual administrative burden for businesses resulting from official statistics.

The barometer of burdens significantly contributes to a realistic assessment of the response burden caused by statistics, which is still "felt" to be rather high. Less than one percent of the administrative burden of businesses in Germany are caused by reporting data for official statistics.

The burden barometer covers all surveys of the statistical offices of the Federation and the Länder which are based on regulations of federal law and entail the obligation to provide information. The barometer of burdens is calculated and released once a year.

The purpose of the barometer is to reflect changes of burden that are only legally induced. Short-term economic effects are excluded. The burden barometer thus reflects the direct impact of legislative activities on the burden placed on respondents. It illustrates the important contribution businesses make to official statistics. To achieve a permanent reduction of the burden on businesses, the Federal Statistical Office has implemented many measures, which you can see on our page "Entlastung der Befragten von statistischen Meldepflichten".
