16/07/2025 - Energy products are among the goods subject to excise duties that generate the most revenue. Motor vehicle users are the biggest contributors to energy tax revenue. Tax of 15.3 billion euros was paid on petrol in 2024, an increase of 1.7% on 2023. In the case of diesel fuel, the amount of tax paid was virtually unchanged from the previous year (18.2 billion euros, or -0.0%).
The sale of heating oil generated 0.9 billion euros in tax revenue for the Federation in 2024. This represented a decline of 7.6% compared with 2023.
