Excise duties 2024: 193.6 million litres of alcohol were taxed in Germany

08/04/2025 – In 2024, 193.6 million litres of alcohol (formerly spirits tax) were taxed in Germany. This was a year-on-year increase of 12.9%. Following the abolition of the spirits monopoly, the Alcohol Tax Act has regulated the taxation of alcohol and products containing alcohol since 1 January 2018. This includes, for example, spirituous beverages such as fruit spirits, rum or liqueurs. On the whole, the Federation collected 2.0 billion euros in revenue from alcohol tax (formerly spirits tax) in 2024.
