1 July 2025 Employment continued to stagnate in May 2025

Roughly 45.8 million persons resident in Germany were in employment in May 2025. According to provisional calculations of the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis), the seasonally adjusted number of persons in employment therefore remained almost unchanged (+1,000 people, 0.0%) compared with the previous month. It has remained at virtually the same level since December 2024, following a drop of 14,000 people in January 2025 and slight increases of 9,000 and 5,000 people in February and March 2025, respectively. The number of persons in employment in April 2025 was unchanged compared with the previous month.

Experimental statistics

In the "EXSTAT – Experimental statistics section" we regularly publish new and innovative project results of the Federal Statistical Office. These are obtained by using new data sources and methods. Both the degree of maturity and quality of the results differ from those of official statistics, especially regarding harmonisation, coverage and methodology. Nonetheless these results of the statistical offices of the Federation and the Länder offer new and interesting ways of looking at various statistical topics.
