In the 3rd quarter of 2018, general government in Germany spent 8.4 million euros on benefits of the education and participation package in accordance with the Act on Benefits for Asylum Seekers. Roughly 64% of the expenditure was made for recipients aged 6 to 13 years and approximately 17% for the age group of 14 to 17 year olds.
The benefits are intended to ensure a subsistence minimum that is in line with human dignity for children, young people and young adults with regard to participation in society and education. The statistics were first collected in the 1st quarter of 2016.
The three top items of expenditure on benefits for education and participation were 3.5 million euros for school supplies (42%), 1.9 million euros for the provision of lunch (22%) and 1.4 million euros for learning support (16%).
The average expenditure per recipient was highest for learning support, at 395 euros, and for school trips lasting several days, at 219 euros.
