Prof. Dr. h.c. Jutta Allmendinger, Ph.D., has been President of the Social Science Research Center Berlin (WZB) and Professor of Educational Sociology and Labour Market Research at Humboldt University of Berlin since 2007 and an Honorary Professor of Sociology at Free University of Berlin since 2012. She studied sociology and social psychology in Mannheim and Madison, Wisconsin, earned her Ph.D. at Harvard University and obtained her post-doctoral lecturing qualification (“Habilitation”) at Free University of Berlin. She was Professor at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich from 1992 to 2007 and Director of the Institute for Employment Research of the Federal Employment Agency in Nuremberg from 2003 to 2007.
For her work Jutta Allmendinger has been presented with a range of awards and prizes, amongst these the Officer’s Cross of the Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany, the Communicator Award – Science Award of Stifterverband (Donor’s Association for the Promotion of Sciences and Humanities in Germany) and the Schader Award. In 2014, she was granted an Honorary Doctorate by Tampere University.
Jutta Allmendinger serves in numerous advisory boards in Germany and abroad. Since 2016, she has been a member of the supervisory board of Berlin City Cleaning (BSR). In May 2017, Jutta Allmendinger was appointed co-editor in the editorial board of the weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT. After the Federal Foreign Office had nominated Jutta Allmendinger for the Thomas Mann Fellowship, she lived and worked at the Thomas Mann House in Los Angeles for four months in 2018.
