Europe Organic farming

Sustainable development

The proportion of agricultural land designated to organic farming is slowly increasing within the EU. 25.7% of Austria's agricultural area was assigned to organic farming, making it to the leading EU Member States in this field in 2020. In Germany the share was significantly lower. In 2021, 9.7% (around 1.6 million hectares) of the agricultural area were organically farmed. This was slightly above the EU average of 9.1% in 2020. The study includes both fully converted areas as well as areas under conversion.
