In 2021, current health expenditure in Germany amounted to 12.9% of the gross domestic product (GDP) in Germany. This was the highest share of all 27 EU Member States. Luxembourg was at the other end of the scale. Here health expenditure amounted to 5.7% of GDP. The EU average for health expenditure amounted to 10.9% of GDP.
This health expenditure data is calculated on the basis of the “System of Health Accounts” as devised by OECD, WHO and Eurostat.
