General and regional statistics

Data on the EU regions, the larger European cities and on many partner countries closely associated with the EU. The section general and regional statistics also includes geographical data and information on land use.

Economy, finance

This section contains detailed figures on the EU economy. The sub-section national accounts offers information on the gross domestic product (GDP) and its components as well as data on the financial accounts, capital accounts and balance sheets. The section economy, finance also includes data on prices (inflation), pubic finance, interest rates, exchange rates and the balance of payments.

Population, labour and social issues

The section Population, labour and social issues offers data on a wide range of topics including demography and migration, education and culture, health, labour market and other social issues, such as crime, income distribution and poverty.

Industry, trade and services

Detailed data on industry, trade and services – broken down by economic sector – are the key focus of this section. Also included are data on the information society, tourism as well as short-term business statistics.

Agriculture, forestry, fischeries

The section agriculture, forestry, fisheries includes data on agricultural production, prices and farm structure, on fishing and aquaculture, on forestry, orchards and vineyards as well as organic farming.

Foreign trade

How many motor cars does Portugal import annually? How much tobacco does the EU export? Which goods does the European Union import from India, China or Japan? Eurostat offers detailed data on the foreign trade of all EU Member States. The data is available for a large range of products, for all partner countries worldwide and on monthly and annual basis.

Transport

Road, river or rail – every day millions of people in Europe travel from A to B. The Eurostat section transport sheds light on the transportation of persons and goods within the EU and also offers figures on the negative impacts of transport, such as accidents and emissions.

Environment and energy

How much waste is generated at municipal level? To what extent do EU countries still rely on fossil fuels? The section environment and energy offers data on topics such as water, waste, biodiversity and emissions as well as on energy prices and the amount of energy produced and consumed in the European Union.

Science, technology, digital society

The section Science, technology, digital society offers data on innovation and patents, higher education and research and development (R & D), with a particular focus on R & D expenditure and personnel.

Databases

The EU Statistics Office provides access to virtually all data published by Eurostat. The database contains a very large amount of datasets and is divided into thematic sections. Assistance on how to extract data from the Eurostat database can be found in the Eurostat demo tour.
