The monthly distribution of fatal traffic accidents differs depending on the mode of transport. Accidents involving pedestrians occur mainly in the darker months of the year, while accidents involving motorcyclists and cyclists peak during summer. Fatal car accidents are more or less evenly distributed throughout the year.
More than 20,600 people were still killed on the roads across the EU in 2022, including almost 2,800 people in Germany alone.
