   <title>BAföG statistics  2016: 823,000 recipients of training assistance in Germany</title>

<description>In 2016, 823,000 people received training assistance under the Federal Training Assistance Act (BAföG) in Germany. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that the number of BAföG recipients was down by approximately 47,000 or 5.5% compared with 2015. The year-on-year decline had been 5.9% in 2015. Recipients included roughly 239,000 pupils and 584,000 students in 2016. The number of pupils who received training assistance fell by 7.6% and that of students by 4.5% on a year earlier.</description></item>

Based on provisional data, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that price-adjusted new orders in manufacturing had increased in June 2017 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 1.0% on the previous month. For May 2017, revision of the preliminary outcome resulted in an increase of 1.1% compared with April 2017 (primary +1.0%). Price-adjusted new orders without major orders in manufacturing had increased in June 2017 a seasonally and working-day adjusted 2.0% on the previous month.</description></item>

   <title>Environmental protection as an economic factor - Turnover of 66 billion euros in 2015</title>

<description>Environmental protection measures do not only improve the state of the environment, they also are an important economic factor. The Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) reports that the establishments of the industry and service sectors in Germany generated a turnover of 66.0 billion euros in 2015 from goods, services and construction operations for environmental protection. The highest turnover of 37.9 billion euros was achieved in the field of climate protection. Among the main pillars are measures to improve energy efficiency and save energy (19.8 billion euros) as well as measures to use renewable energy sources (16.5 billion euros).</description></item>

   <title>Public debt down by 0.7% in 2016</title>

<description>The debt owed by the overall public budget (Federation, Länder, municipalities/associations of municipalities and social security funds, including all extra budgets) to the non-public sector amounted to 2,005.6 billion euros at the end of 2016. This represents a per capita debt of 24,407 euros in Germany. Based on the final results available, the Federal Statistical Office (Destatis) also reports that debt decreased by 0.7% (15.1 billion euros) compared with the revised results as at 31 December 2015. The non-public sector comprises credit institutions, the remaining domestic sector (for instance private businesses) and the remaining non-domestic sector.</description></item>
